Two different challenges. Similar playbook.

We launched Workable in January 2025 with a simple goal: to be a fully independent, 100% Australian-owned advisory firm helping clients make smart, strategic property decisions.

Since then, we’ve worked with a range of clients on their commercial property needs – from securing new spaces that save money and boost performance, to shaping long-term property strategies that support bigger business goals.

At the same time, we’ve been running our own growing SME. Like any young business, it takes constant care and focus to balance the day-to-day with the bigger picture. And funny enough, there are a few clear similarities between managing an SME and running a property search.

Trusted advisors

When you run a small business, you quickly realise you can’t do it all yourself. You rely on trusted advisors – accountants, lawyers, IT providers – to fill the gaps and keep things running smoothly.

Property is no different.

Markets vary by location, lease structures can be complex, and small details make a big difference. That’s where having the right property adviser (like Workable) comes in. Alongside legal, design, and fitout experts, they help you make informed decisions and avoid surprises.

The right team doesn’t just deliver – they protect your success.

Planning

A successful business doesn’t just happen. It takes planning, setting goals, understanding risks, allocating resources, and keeping an eye on what’s next.

The same goes for property. A smart search starts with a plan that covers timing, staffing, budgets, approvals, and operational needs. Without it, you risk missing deadlines or ending up in a space that doesn’t fit your business. In both cases, planning gives you control and confidence.

Teamwork

No SME thrives without teamwork. Founders, staff, partners, and advisors all need to work together toward the same goal. When they do, momentum builds.

Property projects are exactly the same. There are clients, advisors, landlords, and delivery partners involved. When everyone collaborates with a shared focus, great outcomes follow.

Flexibility

One of the biggest lessons from Workable’s first ten months has been the need to stay flexible. Running a business means adapting to whatever comes your way – shifting priorities, changing timelines, new challenges – and making it work.

A property search works the same way. Markets move, timing changes, and not every building will tick every box. Staying flexible lets you adjust course without losing sight of what matters most: finding a solution that works.

Bringing it all together

Running an SME and running a property search share a lot in common – both take planning, teamwork, flexibility, and good advice. Each property project is like its own small business, with its own people, challenges, and milestones.

At Workable, that’s exactly how we approach every client project. We bring the same mindset we use to run our own business – clear goals, trusted relationships, and a focus on long-term results.

Because in both business and property, it’s not just about getting it done it’s about getting it right.
